Keel laid on May 27, 1940, by the Federal Shipbuilding Co., Kearny, NJ.

Launched October 25, 1941 and commissioned February 14, 1942.

The USS Juneau CL-52 was torpedoed and sunk by Japanese submarine I-26 on November 13, 1942, while withdrawing after the naval battle of Guadalcanal.
